About Me
Gaia and I at the International Show
Hello my name is Jennifer Mack. For most of my life I have been an animal lover. It wasn't until i graduated college when I could get my first dog. When I told my parents a wanted a Great Dane they looked at me like I was nuts and said "You know they are huge right?" I said yes, that is what I wanted. When I went to look at a little of puppies a few weeks later they all were so cute. I decided that I wanted a little girl and there were 4 in the litter, a black, a merle, and 2 harls. The way I chose Zia was she was one of the 2 girls that came to me and liked being around me. Also she has a tiny speck of blue in her left eye. that was the only real difference between the 2 harlies. The moment I got her home I knew she was going to be the start of something special. Come to find out she was a major factor in how I fell for this breed. She is a Goofy Goober and I can't imagine life without her. Although there were some hardships and lessons I learned when I bought her. Zia has a Leg deformity due to her Growth plates closing to early called Premature Closure of the Distal Ulna. As with any problem I searched for people who knew the breed and could help. This is when I met Lisa Willams of NorthStar Danes. She helped immensely in figuring out what Zia has, and it was no surprise that she helped get me further into Danes.
After attending shows with Lisa I decided that I wanted to buy a Show puppy and try my hand at showing. On June 20 that dream came true when I met Cindy Warych of Steel City Danes. She had had a litter of Blue Great Dane pups and had a few girls left and was looking for show homes. It wasn't soon after that I went down to pick up my 2nd bundle of joy Gaia "Steel City's Earthly Blueprint V NorthStar." She is such an affectionate girl. and always wants to be the center of attention. Gaia has had very limited showing around the NY, PA, and OH area, and is AKC pointed. But now, at 5 years old, She is retired from the ring and watching her kids succeed in the show ring.
My latest 2 Danes are pups from the 2013 Breeding between Oakley, Dantrydanes Optical Precision and Gaia. They are now 18 mo old and hitting the rings. I will move forward with my breeding program with these to hopefuls. Arya, is already AKC pted, and the quest to finish her CH title is under way! Oberyn her bother is being shown sparingly until he matures. I can't wait so see what the future holds.
I am a member of the Great Dane Club of Western NY, and believe in breeding by the Great Dane Club of America Code of Ethics. If you are considering purchasing a Great Dane puppy please do your homework. Do not buy your puppy from a backyard breeder as the price might seem too good to pass up but believe me you never know what you might have to deal with. Trust the breeders who make it their life to educate themselves to know everything there is to know about the breed. Being new to the breed I rely a lot on my mentors and try to educated myself as much as possible. We all have to start somewhere right?
So that is a little bit about me and how i got into Danes.. I think i have rambled on for quite enough. If you have any questions or would like talk Danes feel free to shoot me an email : [email protected]
